Virginia Streete Obituary

Virginia Sue Bader Streete passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Baptist Reynolds Hospice House in Collierville, Tennessee, at the age of 84 years. She was born May 30,1939, in Memphis, Tennessee, to Virginia Long and John Robert Bader.

Sue graduated from Caruthersville High School where she met her husband James Terrence “Ted” Streete. Ted preceded her in death in 2021 after they shared 62 years of marriage.

Sue was a loving wife and mom who always gave of herself generously. Her community and family focus was infused into many of her life’s passions which included a love of gardening, cooking, sewing, traveling, watching football, and giving back to her church.

She and Ted always had the best garden and loved cooking or canning what was grown to share with others. She made countless beautiful smocked gowns for her grandchildren and knitted Christmas stockings for her family, which are still being used in their homes today.

Traveling was always a joy whether it was the annual family trip to Destin, summer weekends at the lake, or visiting New York City to see Broadway shows. You could often find Sue in the Grove before Ole Miss football games as she prepared to root for the Rebels.

Sue was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Caruthersville, Missouri where she was awarded the Lifetime Membership in the Women of the Church. She worked many hours at the annual flea market and served countless funeral meals.

Most of all, Sue loved hosting large family holiday gatherings where everyone was able to sit, laugh, and enjoy the time together. Sue cherished spending time with her family. They were the light in her life during her final years and she spoke glowingly of them every time you were with her. Her legacy is a large tight-knit family (children, grand-children, and now great grand-children) that continues traditions of holiday gatherings, family vacations, and frequent time together.

Sue is survived by her four daughters; Beth Streete Spencer (Bob), Ginny Streete VanAusdall (Rog) Susan Streete Hathhorn (John), and Lara Streete White (George), twelve grandchildren; Rogers VanAusdall (Emilee), Staten Spencer McKenny (Andrew), Ted VanAusdall (Mackenzie), Jacob VanAusdall (Kara), Kate Spencer Landry (Kevin), John Bennett Hathhorn, Gracie Hathhorn, Mary White Harris (Joseph), Katya VanAusdall, Alec White, Sarah Hathhorn, Lauren White, and eight great grandchildren.

Pallbearers are Rogers VanAusdall, Ted VanAusdall, Jake VanAusdall, John Bennett Hathhorn, Alec White, Andrew McKenny, Kevin Landry, Joseph Harris, and Brandon Kang.

Visitation will be held Thursday, May 16 at 1:00 pm in the Caruthersville First Presbyterian Church Assembly Room. Funeral services will be held in the sanctuary at 1:30 pm followed by interment at Maple Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in Sue’s memory to the First Presbyterian Church of Caruthersville, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or Baptist Reynolds Hospice House in Collierville, TN.
