Sylvia Jean Smith was born in Crockett County, Tennessee on May 21, 1947. She was the daughter of the late James Phillips and Claudia Mae Featherson Phillips.

She departed this life in Hayti, Missouri on October 31, 2019. She was 72 years old.

Sylvia was united in marriage on July 13, 1976 in Caruthersville, Mo to Mr. Wesley Smith. He preceded her in death.
