Nona Mae Adams was born September 20, 1935, in Bath Springs, Tennessee. She was the daughter of James A. Adams and Lonnie Bernice Chambers Adams. She was one of eleven children.
She departed this life in Sikeston, Missouri, on April 28, 2024. She was 88 years old.
Nona married Dave Abbott Jean on October 21, 1954, in Caruthersville, Missouri. He preceded her in death in January of 2011.
Nona enjoyed reading, doing crochet, keeping her house clean, and cooking for her family. She also enjoyed working in her garden and utilizing the fruits of her labors. This included harvesting, canning, and picking out lots of pecans.
She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
She was a devoted member of the Cottonwood Baptist Church.
She’s survived by two daughters: Pam Strawbridge (Jimmy) of Caruthersville, MO, and Cathy Frost (Jack) of Caruthersville, MO; five sisters: Joyce Proctor, Brenda Mott, Donna Starling, Doris Ann Riggs, and Darlene Bell; three grandchildren: David Strawbridge of Caruthersville, MO, Mark Strawbridge of Caruthersville, MO, and Robyn Garrett (Carter) of Jonesboro, AR; two great grandchildren: Eli and Benjamin Garrett; and a great many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers—Ed Adams, Otis “Brother” Adams, Rex Adams, and two sisters—Louise Hopper and Mary Nell Clark.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. in the H.S. Smith Funeral Chapel in Caruthersville, Missouri, with Brother David House officiating. Interment to follow in Maple Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m.
