Margaret Jean Cantrell Hollomon passed away on October 4, 2025 at her home in Caruthersville, MO, at the age of 76. She was born in Cape Girardeau, MO on December 10, 1948 to Mary Jane and John Cantrell.
Jeanie graduated from Caruthersville High School where she met her beloved husband Frank Hollomon. Frank preceded her in death in 2021 after they shared 53 years of marriage.
She worked at First State Bank & Trust for 30 years as a loan officer and was an Assistant Vice President when she retired in 2000. After retiring, she worked part-time as the secretary for First Presbyterian Church for several years. She also made personalized note cards and stationery from home for many years.
Jeanie was a dedicated supporter of Caruthersville and actively involved in the community. She was a member of the Garden Club, served on the Library Board, played Bridge, and was a Golden Girl in Chapter GV of P.E.O. She loved her church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, Presbyterian Women Moderator, deacon, and Elder. She was a recipient of the Lifetime Membership of the Presbyterian Women in 1989. Shecould always be found helping in the kitchen for any event and loved the annual Flea Market. She was quick to send a card of appreciation, love, or support. She also enjoyed sewing and made cross-stitched pillows and baby bibs that have been given to many people over the years. Jeanie loved to throw a party – tea parties were a specialty. In 2014 she wrote a book entitled “Oh What a Thrill Caruthersville” as a tribute to our little townand her grandchildren.
Her greatest love was her family, and she spent a great deal of time traveling to events and activities to support them. She made christening gowns and baby clothes for her grandchildren, whichare a cherished part of her legacy. Jeanie’s traditions and love will continue through her family.
Jeanie is survived by her son, Shayne Hollomon and wife Trina, and her daughter, Shonda Young and husband Jamie; four grandchildren, Thomas Young, John Robert Young, Lillie Hollomon Ellis and husband Matthew, and Adi Young; and her sister, Janie Cantrell. Jeanie’s sister Kathryn Anne Cantrell Norman preceded her in death.
She had many friends but was blessed to have five amazing ladies that became part of the family this past year – Debra, Renee, Etta, Monica, and Patty. She and her family are forever grateful for the love and compassion shown by these ladies alongside the VNA Hospice team.
Pallbearers are Thomas Young, John Robert Young, Matthew Ellis, Carter Long, John Martin, Jason Long, and Graham Martin.
