Lee Hursey Obituary

Lee Dora Hursey went home to heaven on August 18, 2020, at 5:45 AM, at her home that she was proud of.

Lee Dora was born on March 5, 1927, to the late Grant Hursey and Julia Hursey in Swift, MO. She was the fourth of seven children. She was fortunate to have three wonderful siblings from her father's first family. The family moved from Swift, MO, to Homestown (Wardell), when she was a young girl. She lived in the same house for the rest of her life. She was educated in the Wardell School District. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at an early age and endeavored to raise her children in the faith that had always sustained her and her family. She has been a member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church since an early age.

Her family were sharecroppers. She worked on the family farm and later, for other farmers. She had a tremendous work ethic. She worked as an assistant school teacher for the North Pemiscot Public School System for 30+ years. She loved children, teaching, and believed in education.

She was a loving mother of six children. Her children are Robert Hersey, Gustava Mayrant, Teresa Hursey, Rich Hursey, Sylvia Faye Johnson and James Edward Hursey.

Lee Dora was preceded in death by her parents, Grant and Julia Hursey, her siblings, John "Sonny" Hursey, Arthaniel "Fan" Hursey, Nota B. Hursey, Grant Hursey, Jr., Fleater B. Williams, Sister Margaret Hursey, Sister Mary Hardy and Sister Gustava White.

She leaves to cherish her memories: Robert Hersey, Wardell, MO, Gustava (and Aaron Moe) Mayrant, Alpharetta, GA, Teresa Hursey, Wardell, MO, Rich (and Elise) Hursey, Eugene, OR, Sylvia Faye Johnson, Wardell, MO, and James Edward Hursey (and Meme), Blytheville, AR: two siblings: Julia Williams, Lansing, MI, and Henry Hursey, Lansing, MI. She was fond of her very special nephews, James Hursey and Lewis Rogers. She instilled in her children a love of family that she showed through her love for her parents, sisters, brothers, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives.

To know Lee Dora Hursey was to love her. Though she will be missed the beauty of her memories will always leave a smile in the tracks of our tears.

Funeral services were held August 24 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Missionary Church in Homestown with burial in Homestown Cemetery. H. S. Smith Funeral Home in charge of services.
