Jimmy “Boe” Mathis Obituary

Jimmy Allen Mathis, known to many as Boe, was born March 25, 1953, in Wardell, Missouri.  He was the son of John Burl Mathis and Willene Carter Mathis. 

He departed this life on October 11, 2025, at his home in Caruthersville, with his wife and granddaughter at his side.  He was 72 years old.

 Boe attended school at Wardell graduating with the class of 1971.  He then attended Arkansas State University.  Boe was a member of the Wardell Baptist Church and also a member of the National Guard for 8 years.

Boe worked for Dyersburg Avionics in Caruthersville for many years.  He loved being around airplanes and working on them.

Boe had several best friends growing up that he still had until his last day.  Some of those people were Rev. Griff Walker and Robert Lewis. 

Boe married Diane Clark on August 9, 2008 making them married for 17 years.  They had been together since November, 1996. 

Boe is survived by his wife: Diane Mathis; stepsons: Brian Day of Cape Girardeau, MO, and Nicholas Day of Caruthersville; grandson: Cody Day (Kaylan) of Gosnell, AR, granddaughter: Maddison Day of Caruthersville; and great granddaughters: Luna & Harper Day. He is also survived by a brother: Gerald Mathis (Linda) of Little Rock, AR; two sisters: Wanda Hawkins of Jackson, MO, and Ginny Braswell (Gary) of Blytheville, AR; and several nieces and nephews. 

Boe was preceded in death by his parents - John Burl & Willene Mathis, and one sister - Ann Erhardt. 

In lieu of flowers the family asks for memorials to the R-3 Party, Caruthersville First Baptist Children’s Department or to the Caruthersville Humane Society.  

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. in the H.S. Smith Funeral Chapel in Caruthersville, Missouri, with Brother Griff Walker & Brother Shane O'Guin officiating.

Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m.
