James Viston Curtis was born in Hustburg, Tennessee, on March 4, 1942. He was the son of Claude Curtis and Mildred Chappell Curtis Goodale.
He departed this life at his home in Caruthersville, Missouri, on May 12, 2024. He was 82 years old.
On September 15, 1962, in Caruthersville, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Linda Kay Sales. They celebrated 61 years of marriage.
James worked as a Road Maintenance Supervisor for Pemiscot County for 35 years. Before that job, he worked as a deputy sheriff in Dickson, Tennessee.
James enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a huge country music fan with George Jones and Johnny Cash being two of his favorites. He also enjoyed blue grass music.
Rook was a favorite card game that he played with his family.
He is survived by his wife: Linda Curtis of Caruthersville, MO; one son: Tony (Julie Shipman) Curtis of Warsaw, MO; one daughter: Susan (Kevin) Lacer of Steele, MO; two grandsons: Chris Curtis of Lees Summit, MO, and Keegan Curtis of Collierville, TN; three great grandchildren: Gabrielle, Cayden, and Melody; and other friends and relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother – Tom Curtis and a sister – Claudette Cecil.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, May 13, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Maple Cemetery in Caruthersville, Missouri, with Reverend Kenny Lee officiating.
