James Moon Obituary

James Arnold Moon was born in Hayti, Missouri, on July 3, 1952.  He was the son of James Henry Moon and Ferril Smullins Moon.

He departed this life in Hayti, Missouri, on December 16, 2025.  He was 73 years old.

In 2001, in Alamo, Tennessee, he was united in marriage to Tammy Black.

After graduating from South Pemiscot High School, he attended Southeast Missouri State University.  He loved telling stories about his time in college and about the professors he had in class.

James was a very successful grocery store businessman.  One of the reasons he was so successful was because he never met a stranger.  He was always able to engage in conversation with shoppers.  He loved being able to tell jokes and play pranks.  He always had a story to tell about the time he spent working at Hays in Caruthersville.  Everyone that was his friend had a nickname that he gave them.

He is survived by his wife: Tammy Moon; one son: Zach Moon and his wife, Tina.  James was extremely proud of Zach and his accomplishments; two granddaughters: Allison Green and her husband, Mikeal, Adi Moon, one great granddaughter: Madilyn Green; two sisters: Martha Medlin & Saundra Jones; his nephews: Jayme Medlin and his wife, Kelly, & Paul Jones; his nieces: Nikki Moon, Heather Moon & Amy Jones; and other relatives and many friends.

He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother – Mike Moon.
