James Abbott Obituary

James Don Abbott died peacefully in his home on January 14th, 2023, surrounded by his wife, Phyles Abbott, and two daughters, Donna A. Higgins and Vickie A. Nix.

Don was born in Cottonwood Point, Missouri, on December 28th, 1941, to the late James Edward Abbott and Harriet Morine Abbott.

Don graduated from Caruthersville High School in 1959. He became ordained as a minister at the age of 19. Don worked in insurance until his retirement from American General Insurance after 25 years.

Don loved singing gospel music and preaching. He also enjoyed working in his yard, tending to his flowers, and spending time with his family.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Donald Wayne Abbott.

Don is survived by his wife: Phyles J. Abbott of Crawfordsville, Arkansas; two daughters: Donna Abbott Higgins and her husband, Kenny Brocato, of Marion, Arkansas, and Vickie Abbott Nix and her husband, Tommy N. Nix, of Crawford, Colorado; and a grandson: Harrison B. Nix of Broomfield, Colorado.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 17th, 2023, at 1:00 pm in the H. S. Smith Chapel in Caruthersville, Missouri, with Reverend Chester Witherspoon officiating. Interment will follow at Maple Cemetery in Caruthersville, Missouri. H. S. Smith Funeral Home in charge of services.
