Hurtis Rodgers Obituary

Hurtis Stean Rodgers was born in Hayti, Missouri, on July 24, 1960.  She was the daughter of Annie Laura Hopper Johnson and Ellis Ray Johnson.

She departed this life to go be with Jesus on December 23, 2025, in Caruthersville, Missouri. 

Hurtis was united in married to Freddie Rodgers on October 13, 1981, in Caruthersville, Missouri. 

She leaves behind her sons: Edward Griffin of Caruthersville, Jackie Griffin & his wife, Becky, of Omaha, Nebraska, Billy Griffin of Caruthersville, Don Griffin & his girlfriend, Sara, of Caruthersville; a daughter: Tammy Rodgers & boyfriend, Preston Tucker, of Kennett, Missouri; a stepson: Franklin Williams & his wife, Julie, of Caruthersville; a stepdaughter: Monica Jones & her husband of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; two brothers and sisters; and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and other family and friends.

Hurtis was ready to meet Jesus. She was excited to be reunited with her son – Freddie Rodgers, Jr., her daughter – Sara, and her late siblings.

From an early age, Hurtis was taught to treat everyone the same. She was a firm believer in treating others the way you want to be treated yourself. She lived by those principles. Her loving nature will be missed by all who knew her.

Before retiring in February of 2025, because of illness, she had worked for many years at the casino and also in the home health industry as a CNA.  

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. in the H.S. Smith Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Morgan Ridge Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m.
