Herbert Earl Smith, Sr.

HERBERT EARL SMITH, SR.

Herbert Earl Smith, Sr., 87, of Caruthersville, Mo. passed away peacefully at home in the presence of his children on Thursday, October 8, at 10:24 a.m. He was a longtime member of Central Church of Christ.

True to the way he lived his life, he passed away on his terms shortly after fulfilling his last wish to see all six of his children and as many of his family members as possible so he could tell them all he loved them.

He was born on February 18, 1933, in Lilbourn, Mo. to Harry Smith and Marie Ward Smith, both who preceded him in death.

He married the love of his life, the late Ruth Alene Wyatt, on September 1, 1951, in Piggott, Mo. and they were married 48 years before her death in 1999.

He was an employee of Tipton Box Co. early in his life and later worked for Coca Cola before owning DX Service Station and Sealtest Milk Co. in Caruthersville for many years.

He is survived by four daughters and two sons, as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; a brother and a host of friends.

Survivors include daughters Evelyn Collins of Jackson, Mo., Deborah Lintner of Jackson, Mo., Janet Allen (late husband Terry) of Caruthersville, Harriet Barger (husband Jerry) of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; sons Herbert Earl Smith, Jr. (wife Mitzi) of Maumelle, Arkansas and David Todd Smith, Sr. (wife Misty) of Caruthersville; brother Truman Smith of Caruthersville. He was preceded in death by nine siblings.

Pallbearers were his six oldest grandsons: Jason Barger, Terry Allen, Chris Smith, Jeremy Barger, David Smith Jr. and Tyler Coleman.

Honorary pallbearer was Jerry Barger.

Funeral services were held Saturday, October 10, 2020, at 2 p.m. at Central Church of Christ in Caruthersville, Missouri, with Pastor Mike McDaniel officiating.
