Helen Robertson Malone Abernethy departed this life after a short illness in the hospital in Dyersburg, Tennessee surrounded by her children on May 20, 2022, at the age of 85.
Helen was born in Hayti, Missouri, on February 23, 1937, to Elmer Robertson and Clara Moody Robertson
In 1954, Helen was united in marriage to Billy Joe Malone and to this union 3 children were born. She was a military wife and traveled the country raising her family before settling back in her hometown of Caruthersville, Missouri.
In 1992, Helen was united in marriage to Donald Ray Abernethy and they were married for 21 years before his passing in 2013.
Helen worked at Gaither's Furniture Store, Ace Hardware and The Globe Clothing Store before her retirement. She was active in the Business and Professionals Women's Club and also The Woman's Club. Helen was a very active member of the Central Church of Christ where she taught Sunday School for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Elmer and Clara Robertson; her husband: Don Abernethy; a sister: Barbara Robertson; two brothers: Marvin Robertson and Robert Robertson; and a granddaughter: Stephanie Tillman.
Helen is survived by her 3 children: Mickey Joe Malone of Moore, Oklahoma, Sammy Ray Malone of Dyersburg, TN, and Carol Tillman Gowan (Mike) of Hayti, MO; four grandchildren: Mickey Joe Malone II (Andrea) of Rowlett, TX, Robert Haskins Malone (Darla) of Hattiesburg, MS, Samuel Thomas Malone (Shelby) of Las Vegas, NV, and Ginny Tillman Gilbert (Kevin) of Jonesboro, AR; seven great grandchildren: Caitlin & Connor Malone of Rowlett, TX, Eliza & George Malone of Hattiesburg, MS, Sydney & Sadie Malone of Las Vegas, NV; Hannah Kate Gilbert of Jonesboro, AR; a special cousin: Brenda Hoyle of O'Fallon, MO; and many other nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
Funeral services were held May 23rd, 2022, in the H.S. Smith Chapel at 2:00 with Brother Mike McDaniel officiating. Interment in Pemiscot Memorial Gardens. H. S. Smith in charge of services.
The family request that in lieu of flowers, memorials be given to Central Church of Christ.
