Harold Jonathan (John) Barnett was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, on August 11, 1944. He was the son of Harold Barnett and Joy Morris Barnett.
He departed this life in Hayti, Missouri, on November 3, 2024. He was 80 years old.
After graduating from Caruthersville High School, John enlisted in the United States Navy in St. Louis, Missouri. He proudly served his country before receiving his honorable discharge on June 3, 1968, in Miramar, California. He served in Fighter Squadron 121.
On July 25, 1974, in Caruthersville, he was united in marriage to Rebecca (Becky) Day. They celebrated 50 years of marriage.
John loved sports. He was an avid golfer. He loved the St. Louis Cardinals, the Memphis Grizzlies, University of Memphis Tigers, and the Missouri Tigers.
His greatest love was his family. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.
He was a member of the Caruthersville Wesleyan Church where he often shared his love of singing.
He is survived by his wife: Becky Barnett; four children: Cindy Watkins (Greg), Jon Barnett (Jacob), Jennifer Anderson (Brian), and Matt Barnett; one sister: Denise Barnett; one brother: Mike Barnett; six grandchildren: Kirby Watkins, Justin Watkins, Rebecca Barnett, Katelyn Anderson, Ava Anderson, and Reed Barnett; eight great grandchildren; and other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother - Larry Barnett.
Services will be held at a later date.
The family request that memorials be given to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
