Dorothy Louise McClanahan was born in Caruthersville, Missouri, on July 20, 1939. She was the daughter of Walter Miller and Myrtle Abshire Miller.
She departed this life at her home in Caruthersville, Missouri, on February 3, 2024. She was 84 years old.
Dorothy was an active person starting all the way back in high school. She was drum major for Caruthersville High School. She once went with a group of her friends to Elvis Presley’s house and told her friends that she was getting a kiss from him. She did!
Dorothy was united in marriage to Jerry Nelson McClanahan in Las Vegas, Nevada. He preceded her in death.
Dorothy continued to always be a big fan of Elvis. Once when she and Jerry were in Vegas with friends, they went to his show at the MGM. Elvis recognized her and stopped to use her napkin to wipe his face. Needless to say, that napkin is still a prized possession.
Dorothy served the community as Ward 1 council member for many years. She also served on the local Chamber of Commerce.
She is survived by four children: Lisa Myers of Caruthersville, MO, Jerry McClanahan (Cynthia) of Lake Forest, CA, Laurie Trimue (Dan) of Caruthersville, MO, & Barry McClanahan of Caruthersville, MO; six grandchildren: Vanessa, Justin, Joshua, Katie, L.J., & Jacqueline; ten great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
The family also treasured the Legacy Hospice Nurses – Ashley and Emily.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a sister and a brother.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at 3:00 pm in the H.S. Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Caruthersville, Missouri, with Dr. James Adams officiating.
