David Lee Phelps, Sr., was born in Alamo, Tennessee, on September 17, 1951. He was the son of Carnelice Irvin Phelps and Cora Lee Jurney Phelps.
He departed this life in Nashville, Tennessee, on November 8, 2024. He was 73 years old.
David was united in marriage to Anita Jean Presson on October 3, 1969, at the First Baptist Church in Hayti, Missouri. They celebrated 55 years of marriage.
He was the manager of River Ready Mix, Caruthersville Marine, and then Wepfer Marine. He took great pride in his work and the companies he managed. He also served as a volunteer fireman and worked as a policeman for several years.
David loved the St. Louis Cardinals, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Caruthersville Tigers.
He was a faithful member of the First Assembly of God Church, where he served as a deacon.
David loved his family and treasured time with them.
He is survived by his wife: Anita Phelps; two sons: Chris Phelps & Jeff Phelps; one sister-in-law: Brenda Riley; 14 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; and other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by - his parents, five brothers - Carl Phelps, Terry Phelps, Roger Phelps, Michael Phelps, & Carless Phelps, one son - David Lee Phelps, Jr., and a grandson - David "Tray" Lee Phelps, III.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. at Caruthersville First Assembly of God with Pastor Chad Fisher and Pastor Shawn Harding officiating. Interment will follow in Little Prairie Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m.
