Charles “Chuck” Wayne Miller was born June 25, 1949, in Caruthersville, Missouri to Harry Elmer and Mary Francis Griggs Miller.
He departed this life on January 16, 2026, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri surrounded by those who knew and loved him best.
Chuck was united in marriage to Norma Cantrell on December 7, 1981, and they enjoyed 44 years together. He was passionate about his family and was a loving and supportive father and an amazing husband.
He was well known in the community as he was a fixture of the local post office for over 28 years. Over time, he became acquainted with most residents and could actually remember everyone’s address.
Chuck was an avid gardener spending many hours in his corner backyard making beautiful things happen, while also enjoying interacting with those who always stopped to admire and chat. He often found peace and enjoyment on the riverbank, and he spent many a sunny afternoon in the pursuit of big catfish.
While his family was the focus and center of his life, he also had a lifelong love affair with baseball. He was most at home just a few inches from first base and loved his life as a coach. He made an impact on the lives of many young men of Caruthersville because he loved each one of them and took great pains to give them special nicknames. They were his “other” family, and all summers were set aside for them. He lived a good, full life and coaching ranked at the top of what should be considered a successful time on this earth.
He is survived by his wife: Norma Miller; two sons: Corey Miller and his wife, Elana, and Patrick Pery; and one daughter: Lauren Miller and her husband, Mingo Tingle. He was blessed with three beautiful granddaughters: Carson Hardesty and Allee & Hadlee Miller.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother – Elmer Gene Miller, and two sisters – Alma Jane Baker & Erma Askew.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the H.S. Smith Funeral Chapel.
Memorials may be made to Caruthersville Middle School Baseball Program in care of Corey Miller.
