Charles Carey Morgan was born in Eaton, Tennessee, on March 5, 1934. He was the son of Sherman Edgar Morgan and Bula Bea Ray Morgan. He was the seventh son of the family.
He departed this life in Dyersburg, Tennessee, on December 2, 2023. He was 89 years old.
Charles grew up in Gibson County, Tennessee, until about the age of 12 when he moved to the Richwood Community in Dyer County.
Charles enlisted in the United States Air Force in Memphis, Tennessee, on September 1, 1956. He served in Europe during tumultuous times during the beginning of the Cold War and the Berlin Air Lift. During his three years of service spent in Europe, he received National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He received his honorable discharge at Manhattan Beach AF Station in Brooklyn, New York. At this time, he transferred to the Air Reserve.
After the service, he was working in Chicago for Phoenix Metal. It was here in Chicago that he met and married Mary who also happened to be from Dyer County and was working in Chicago.
After marrying Mary, they moved back to the Dyersburg area. He went to work for GTE Sylvania in the maintenance area but also was involved in farming and cattle.
He was of the Methodist faith.
He is survived by one son: Mike Morgan (Amy); several stepchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wives – Mary H. Morgan, June Harbor Arnold Morgan, Mary Mitchell Morgan, six brothers – Edwin, Fred, William D., Sam, Ray Lee, Don E., and a sister – Autny Hunter.
Graveside memorial services will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2023, at 2:00 pm at Fairview Cemetery in Dyersburg, Tennessee. H.S. Smith Funeral Home in charge of services.
