Betty Jean (Elkins) Morgan

Betty Jean Morgan was born on September 24, 1933, in Caruthersville, Missouri.  She was the daughter of Cletus Elkins and Edna Treece Elkins.

She departed this life, surrounded by family, on May 22, 2026, at her home in Caruthersville.

Betty graduated from Caruthersville High School with the class of 1952.  She was a Caruthersville Tiger forever.

Betty was united in marriage to Frank Morgan, Sr. on April 15, 1955. They were proud parents to 4 children.

She was employed as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell.

Betty loved people.  For many years, she bowled in a league and qualified for competitions all over.  She also played basketball during the time of 3 players on offense and defense.  She also competed in swimming and softball.

Betty enjoyed the Tiger Hut when she and Frank owned it.  You would find her there during busy times helping to wait on customers and during slow times playing the machines. 

Going to get ice cream with cholate fudge sundaes being her favorite, were eaten as she rode the loop and went by the river.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church.

She is survived by four children: Tina Slentz and her husband, Pat, of Caruthersville, MO, Dona Clark of Caruthersville, MO, Dana Morgan and her husband, K. T. Twilla, of Caruthersville, MO, and Frank Morgan, Jr. and his wife, Donna, of Jefferson City, MO; 10 grandchildren: Jennifer, Lori, Chris, Bradley, Allison, Alex, Blake, Jessica, Kayla, and Frank III; 26 great grandchildren with number 27 on the way; and many other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, an infant daughter – Mary Morgan, a sister – Pat Bryson, a brother – Max Harold Elkins, and an infant brother – Jonathan Dewayne.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Caruthersville, MO, with Brother Shane O’Guin and Brother Jim Pilcher officiating.  Interment will follow in Little Prairie Cemetery.  Visitation will be at the church beginning at 11:00 a.m.
