Barbara Ann Combs was born December 20, 1937, in Micola, Missouri. She was the daughter of Fred James Franklin and Lucille Young Franklin.
She departed this life in Franklin, Tennessee on March 13, 2026. She was 88 years old.
Barbara graduated from South Pemiscot High School and then went on to get her B.S. in education. She continued to pursue education, getting her masters, her specialist and then was working on her doctorate when her health began to fail.
She taught in the Caruthersville School District for 33 years, where she was loved and admired by her students. She was always fair, firm and consistent. In addition to teaching in Caruthersville, she taught in several other places for a total of 51 years in education.
In addition to being a wonderful classroom teacher, she also taught “The Gleaners” Sunday school class at Caruthersville First Baptist Church for many years.
She treasured being able to spend time with and enjoy her grandchildren.
Survived by – her daughter – Eydie Hassell – Franklin, Tennessee
3 grandchildren – Katherine Hassell, Jack Hassell, Samantha Hassell – all of Franklin, Tennessee

She was preceded in death by her parents and 1 brother, Jerome Franklin
Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 17 at 1:00 p.m. in the H.S. Smith Chapel with Ramone Bryant officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m.
